Our Vero Beach med spa nurse injectors use BOTOX to soften wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes and restore a refreshed, vibrant look. Our nurse injectors have the training and experience to create BOTOX results that look natural and preserve the expressiveness of your face. BOTOX is the most popular cosmetic treatment in the world and one of the safest, but getting the desired results requires a knowledgeable injector who understands how much BOTOX is needed–and where–to address your specific concerns.
Areas We Serve
Women and men interested in injectables such as fillers and BOTOX travel from Melbourne, Sebastian, Port St. Lucie, and other Treasure Coast cities to White Orchid Spa in Vero Beach for the skill and expertise of our nurse injectors and to enjoy an unmatched 5-star experience.
What Is BOTOX?
BOTOX is a brand name for a specific botulinum toxin strain produced by the bacteria, Clostridium botulinum. You can see why it’s called BOTOX. A unit of BOTOX is made of extremely tiny amounts of the purified botulinum toxin protein. Manufacturers of BOTOX grow the bacteria and then remove the bacterial substances, leaving the purified neurotoxin used to make BOTOX.
What BOTOX Can Do for You
BOTOX is an FDA-approved injectable treatment to diminish wrinkles that form due to repeated facial expressions–called dynamic wrinkles. The most common wrinkles and lines treated with BOTOX injections include:
Crow’s feet: These fine lines develop at the corners of the eyes.
Frown lines: Also called worry lines and the 11s, these vertical lines form between the eyebrows.
Forehead lines: These horizontal lines and creases can detract from an otherwise youthful appearance.
Our skilled nurse injectors use BOTOX to treat a variety of conditions in addition to wrinkles, including:
Sagging brows (BOTOX brow lift)
Gummy smile
Thin upper lip (BOTOX lip flip)
Overly broad jaw (BOTOX masseter reduction for jawline slimming/contouring)
Migraines
Excessive sweating (BOTOX for hyperhidrosis)
How Many Units of BOTOX Do I Need?
This is a question almost all patients ask, especially those getting BOTOX injections for the first time. The number of BOTOX units you’ll need depends on the concerns being treated, the treatment area, and if you’re treating more than 1 area. We can provide an average range for the different areas of the face based on our experience.
Here’s the typical number of units needed for commonly treated areas, but remember that each patient is unique, and your needs may differ from the average:
Forehead
10-30 units
Jawline
40-60 units
Crow’s feet
5-15 units
Frown lines
10-25 units
Bunny lines
5-10 units
Gummy smile
3-6 units
Brow lift
2-5 units
BOTOX Lip Flip vs. Lip Fillers, Which Is Right for You?
A lip flip involves injecting a tiny amount of BOTOX into specific points above the upper lip into the orbicularis oris muscle. After a few days, the upper lip begins to roll upward, exposing more of the red part called the vermillion. Lip fillers involve injecting dermal fillers into the lips. While the lip flip seems simple, it takes an experienced injector to ensure the desired results and avoid unintended results.

What’s a Liquid Facelift?
When BOTOX injections are combined with injections of JUVÉDERM® or Restylane® dermal fillers, it’s often called a liquid facelift. This nonsurgical procedure can postpone or take the place of a facelift in the right patient. Fillers restore volume to the cheeks, hollows under the eyes, and depressions at the temples. BOTOX relaxes creases on the forehead, around the eyes, and on the neck; it also helps filler results last longer.
How It Works
The wrinkles targeted by BOTOX injections have a different origin than those addressed by dermal filler injections. Crow’s feet, worry lines, and forehead wrinkles are caused by squinting, frowning, smiling, and a lifetime of other facial expressions made by the repeated movement of facial muscles. These “dynamic” wrinkles are different from lines caused by volume loss, environmental damage, and the natural aging process. BOTOX works by temporarily immobilizing the muscles that create dynamic wrinkles.
What Is Preventative BOTOX?
Because it limits muscle contractions, BOTOX can help delay the onset of dynamic wrinkles. Med spa guests in their mid- to late-20s are coming to White Orchid for preventive BOTOX injections to stop wrinkles before they become etched into the skin.
Our Nurse Practitioners
Our highly respected nurse practitioners combine the training and experience of accomplished medical professionals with the warm, personalized service you expect at a luxury med spa.
We welcome each of our guests at White Orchid Spa as if they were a close friend or family member. That’s true whether you’re here to get injectable treatments or one of our signature facials. A BOTOX session may begin with the specialist icing the treatment area, or applying a topical numbing cream to minimize any discomfort. Our guests usually say that the injections–made with a very fine needle–feel like a tiny pinch when performed without anesthetic.
After you describe your cosmetic goals to the nurse injector, she analyzes your face and determines the optimal injection locations. The injection process itself takes between 10 and 15 minutes, with the actual injections taking only seconds. There is little or no downtime following the procedure, although you may experience a bit of tenderness, swelling, or redness.
What Not To Do Before BOTOX
Preparing for your BOTOX treatments isn’t complicated, but there are certain things you shouldn’t do in the few days before your appointment. Some things to avoid include:
Blood thinners: You shouldn’t take aspirin, Motrin®, or Advil® for a few days because they can cause excess bruising and make healing more difficult.
Alcohol: Skip happy hour the night before your BOTOX treatment. Alcohol, especially red wine, is a blood thinner and poses the same concerns as blood thinning medications.
Prolonged sun exposure: Don’t plan a beach day just before your BOTOX appointment. Sunburned skin is difficult to treat.
Certain supplements: Some supplements increase the risk of bleeding and bruising. Avoid taking vitamin E, fish oil, garlic pills, ginseng, flax seeds, green tea, and omegas 3, 6, and 9.
Strenuous exercise: Take a break from the gym the day before your appointment. Increased blood flow after a taxing workout also increases the risk of bruising and bleeding.

BOTOX results are not immediate. It usually takes about 4 to 7 days for the first noticeable results to appear. The results improve during the following week or so, and they will last about 4 months. Scheduling regular treatment sessions can help you maintain the rested, youthful appearance that results from BOTOX injections.

Is BOTOX Safe While You’re Pregnant or Breastfeeding?
Women breastfeeding infants who want to do something for themselves may consider a trip to the med spa. If you’re considering BOTOX, however, there isn’t really enough research to conclude that it’s safe for breastfeeding moms to get injections. That’s true, too, for BOTOX treatments while pregnant. For patient safety, no injectable services are performed at White Orchid Spa if you are expecting or actively breastfeeding.
Can BOTOX Cause Headaches?
A small percentage of patients experience headaches after getting BOTOX injections. According to a 2020 post-injection review of BOTOX side effects from Advances in Dermatology and Allergology, most of these headaches are mild and resolve within a day or two of the injections. Factors that may cause headaches include the dosage, the injection technique, and a patient’s sensitivity to the medication. Stress about getting the injections, especially for first-time BOTOX patients, can also cause headaches.
Does BOTOX Prevent Wrinkles?
You can get BOTOX injections to prevent the early development of wrinkles. By limiting muscle movements, BOTOX helps delay the onset of dynamic wrinkles. Good candidates for preventative BOTOX injections are people in their mid-to-late 20s who notice the early signs of worry lines, crow’s feet, or forehead wrinkles.
Can You Get BOTOX While Pregnant?
According to the FDA, no adequate and well-controlled studies examine the potential risk of pregnant women getting BOTOX injections. The consensus in recent years is that pregnant women should not get cosmetic BOTOX injections.
What Are the Side Effects of BOTOX?
Even though BOTOX has had an impressive safety track record in the 2 decades since the FDA first approved it to treat wrinkles, patients may experience some mild side effects after treatments. Common side effects include pain, swelling, or bruising at the injection site, headache or flu-like symptoms, and watery or dry eyes. Less common side effects are droopy eyelids and infection at the injection site. Choosing a well-trained injector minimizes the risk of experiencing these less common side effects.
How Often Can You Get BOTOX?
The frequency of BOTOX injections depends on your age, the severity of your wrinkles, and how long your results typically last. On average, the effects of BOTOX injections last about 4 months. You can seamlessly maintain your results by scheduling treatments every 3 to 4 months. Eventually, the muscles in the treatment area atrophy, and you’ll need less frequent injections.
